Posted by Michael Eustace in Race Reports. Comments Off

17th May

WILL Bateup and Sam Appleton were the joint victors at round 4 of the Pre-68 Championship held at Maylandsea in Essex on Sunday 1st May.

Bateup took the win in race 1 ahead of Gene Womack, whilst Appleton was ruled out with a puncture.

He made a comeback in race 2, however, taking the lead from Colin Hutton by the end of lap 1, and eventual the win. Womack went straight-on at a turn and was caught in the ropes on lap 3, but managed to complete the race to accrue some points. Will Bateup finished second, just pipping father John on the line.

In race 3, it was Appleton again leading the pack, his 441 BSA Metisse suiting the tight-and-twisty layout. He lead the race all the way to finish line to record not only his first, but second ever race win … Read More »

2016 ClassicMXRider.com Pre-68 Championship – Round 2

Posted by Michael Eustace in Race Reports. Comments Off

5th April

AARON Graves and Mitchell Harris shared the spoils at round 2 of the Pre-68 Championship hosted by the Northampton Classic Club at Sproxton on Sunday.

A healthy amount of rain the night before kept dust down to almost non-existent levels, and the sun shone down on the twisty, natural rolling Leicestershire-based circuit, creating near perfect race conditions for the club’s inaugural hosting of the Pre-68 Championship.

In race one, Graves (750cc Triumph Metisse) took the holshot, followed closely by Red Marley Hill Climb 350cc class runner-up Mitchell Harris (500 BSA), and Gene Womack (545 Jawa Metisse). By the end of lap one, the positions remained, with Matt McCulloch (360 CZ), Nick Archer (500 BSA) and Glenn Davey (250 CZ) rounding out the top-six.

By lap three, Davey was ringing the proverbial neck of the 250 in pursuit of Womack, having passed McCulloch and Archer … Read More »

29th March

NICK Carter rode an absolute belter through treacherous conditions to take a hat-trick of wins at round 1 of the Pre-68 Championship on Easter Sunday.

Two heavy downpours worked their magic on the Marks Tey circuit to make the Pre-65 Motocross Club’s first event of the year, for many, one to forget. Not so for Carter (360 CZ), who made it look easy,

That said, there was some great racing with 2015 series champion, Aaron Graves, trying out his new 750cc Triumph Metisse (video to come) for the first time. Graves managed three solid second-place finishes to tuck him in behind Carter in the championship points.

Glenn Davey made a welcome comeback after a season or two lay-off, opting to race his all singing 250cc twin-port CZ against the bigger 500s, to great effect too as he bagged himself two 3rd places.

2015 ClassicMXRider.com Pre-68 Championship – Round 6

Posted by Michael Eustace in Race Reports. Comments Off

26th July

DESPITE wet and muddy conditions, 20 riders turned up for the first of three Pre-68 Championship races at Gosfield today.

Series leader, Aaron Graves, was the only competitor able to beat overall winner Nick Carter, who mastered the conditions aboard his 1967 360 CZ.

As the day progressed, conditions deteriorated and many riders called it a day, so much so that only 9 riders completed the final championship race.

Woodford scramble confirms Northampton CMCC as fully-fledged scrambles club

Posted by Brian Crichton in Race Reports. Comments Off

16th July

A mere 28 riders attended the Northampton Classic MCC’s first ever scramble, held at Woodford last year. One year on, and start lines are now packed thanks to rounds of the Greeves and Classic Sidecar championships, oh and an inviting, friendly club spirit. Brian Crichton was on hand to take in all the action.

Making major progress since their inaugural classic scramble at Woodford, Northamptonshire, last year, the Northampton Classic Club staged an 18-race meeting on the superb Woodfood track on Sunday 12 July incorporating rounds of the Greeves and British Classic Sidecar championships.

Riders, 88 in total, were given a good work-out on the long permanent track, home to Corby AMCA MX events. The event started and finished in dry conditions but sporadic heavy rain tested skills and endurance in the mid-programme races.

Star of the future, 21-year-old Will Bateup was best unlimited … Read More »

2015 ClassicMXRider.com Pre-68 Championship – Round 2

Posted by Michael Eustace in Race Reports. Comments Off

8th April

ONLY Aaron Graves was able to stop Matt Harvey gaining a hat trick of wins, as the series newcomer took two wins and a second place during round 2 of the ClassicMXRider.com Pre-68 Championship at Maylandsea on Easter Sunday.

Aboard his father’s 1967 360cc CZ, Harvey made light work of the slippery conditions, and continued his form after winning the Pre-70 class at the Woodbridge & DMCC’s motocross event at Blaxhall last August.
