27th April

A HAT-trick of wins boosted James Newstead’s lead in the Pre-68 Championship at Maylandsea on Sunday.

The Norfolk-based rider rode through the wet conditions, seemingly unfazed, taking three clean wins aboard his 750 Triumph Metisse.

The ever-improving Aaron Graves produced some solid finishes too, gaining three second-places, albeit having fought off strong opposition from Nick Archer (500 BSA) in race 1 and youngster Will Bateup (500 Jawa) in race 3.

Bateup is among a crop of young riders coming through into the series this season. 19-year-old Luke Womack (500 BSA) finished a credible sixth in race 1, and Harry Varndell (500 BSA) finished tenth in race 2 having moved up from the clubmans class this season.

Gene Womack (545 Jawa Metisse) finished in the top-five in all three races, and nearly pipped Will Bateup to the line in race 3. Womack wore our … Read More »

23rd April

RICKY Pedder proved to be the man-of-the-meeting at the 2014 Red Marley Hill Climb on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Stoke-based youngster took convincing wins in both the Over 350cc and Allcomers classes aboard Phil Edwards’ Triumph Metisse.

Neil Griffiths was the victor in the Upto 350cc class, closely followed by former school-boy trials expert, Greg Speed.

The meeting introduced the new All Stars class for the first. The class is a 16-rider invitation event consisting of 20 heats, with 2pts for a win and 1pt for second place.

At the end of the heats, Carl Pope was in first place with 14pts, whilst Richard Williams had 13pts. The final was bestowed with drama, after the start gate failed to release, leaving Carl Pope and Nick Payton stuck on the line. In the re-run, however, it was Richard Williams who took the honours, followed by … Read More »

1st April

JAMES Newstead started his 2014 campaign where he left-off the final round of the 2013 season, by taking 2 wins in round 1 of the Pre-68 Championship.

In dry conditions, the Norfolk-based rider dominated the leaderboard aboard his 750 Triumph Metisse, taking the first two races with ease. Gene Womack (545 Jawa Metisse) was the only rider that broke the mold by leading the third race from start to finish, with Newstead finishing second.

2013 champion Sam Heitman (500 Boretech Metisse), was in good form, finishing 3rd in the first two races. An injury sustained in the second race, however, put him out of contention for the final race.

The usual suspects John Bateup (500 Triumph), Aaron Graves (500 BSA) and Sam Appleton (441 BSA Metisse) were all near the sharp end of the field, all filling the remaining top 5 positions.
